Biography
Before getting into training, John Mathews was performing improv and sketch comedy in Los Angeles through schools like Second City and the Groundlings. He then leveraged his improvising and creative writing skills in the training and development field, where for 12 years he has been designing interactive learning experiences and facilitating trainings that ensure participants enjoy themselves while learning.
John is a certified learning and development trainer, instructional designer, and performance coach through the Association for Talent Development. He has worked as a trainer in the corporate, government, and nonprofit sectors, with extensive experience working in healthcare and higher education. Having worked at UCLA, UCLA Health, and UC Merced, he is no stranger to higher ed or the UC system. He’s developed Train the Trainer programs, Leadership Academies, and Career Development Seminars, and enjoys partnering with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) on how they can best create and deliver their own trainings. He is also a certified DiSC® facilitator, helping teams communicate and understand each other better.
