It’s no wonder the Santa Clara Valley was once known for its acres of fruit orchards—our mild Mediterranean climate allows us to grow a dazzling variety of tree fruit! In this talk, we’ll go over what you need to know to establish your own fruit trees, including site selection and preparation, deciding what to grow, ordering plant material, and actual planting. We’ll then provide an overview of what it will take to maintain those trees, including irrigation, fertilization, and pest management. We’ll end the talk with a tour of our newly planted fruit orchard—which, once mature, will provide fruit during every month of the year.
Participants should wear closed-toed shoes, layered clothing and a hat, as the class is held outdoors. A refillable water bottle, notebook and writing implements are recommended. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to park and sign in.
Note: the park charges $6.00 for parking, or park closer to our area on Chynoweth Avenue near Vauxhall Circle for free.
